   Symposium Theme:
From the beginning of the new millennium, it was obvious that a new stage influencing the growth of urbanism and architecture in the Middle East and the Mediterranean had started, when decision makers, rulers and head government official workers possessed stronger interest in development and architecture. Considering such a sturdy interest a lot of cities in this region are facing quick development coupled with rapid track urbanization procedures, and emphasized by large range learning, work and residential environments, as well as mixed use developments. This situation is witnessed from Istanbul’s intensive urbanization procedure to Abu-Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island Development to Bahrain Financial Harbor, and from Kuwait’s City of Silk to the future city of Qatar, Lusail. Naturally, some cities have received a geo-strategic importance. Through the changes of global economic forces, they have developed to central hubs between old economies of Western Europe and the rising economies of Asia. In the context of international competition between cities new challenges are emerging.
   Symposium topics:

- informal urbanism – behind the scenes of the global images;
- place making, politics and the urban power;
- multiculturalism and the emerging city;
- spaces of flows and the contemporary city;
- urban cohesion, sustainability and community participation;
- social impacts, health and sustainable environments;
- urban sprawl, density and transport;
- local impacts on architecture;
- urban-spatial regeneration and heritage conservation;
- local impacts on urbanism.

Deadline for submissions – 27th of February, 2012
Notification of acceptance – 30th of March, 2012
Deadline for full paper submission – 25th of May, 2012
Notification of full paper acceptance – 10th of July, 2012
